Kitchen Cabinet Installation Cost: Labor Only, by Unit
Compare cabinet installation labor by linear foot and individual cabinet, then check removal, assembly, trim and other work in each quote.
Kitchen cabinet installation costs about $50 to $450 per linear foot for labor alone, with modifications at the upper end in one remodeler's guide.1
Start by checking whether you're buying installation separately. Have the contractor list the cabinet price, installation work and additional services on separate lines. You can't compare two totals until you know what each one includes.

Kitchen cabinet installation cost, labor only, by unit
| Price | Unit | What is included or unresolved | Source and date |
|---|---|---|---|
| $50–$450 | Linear foot | Installation; the upper endpoint applies when modifications are needed. Cabinet purchase is separate. | Remodeler's price guide, April 2026.1 |
| $125–$500 | Individual cabinet | Installation work; no standard size, type or assembly allowance attached to the range. | Service marketplace's cost guide, October 2026.2 |
The remodeler estimates ordinary installation at $50 to $300 per linear foot and allows up to $450 when the job needs modifications.1 Ask the installer to name the condition and the extra work that caused a price above the ordinary range.
These published estimates use different units, so you can't swap one for the other. Get the installer's measurement method in writing, including whether upper and base cabinets are counted separately.
For cabinet purchasing and an itemized shop example, see our custom cabinet cost guide. Use that example to identify separate charges. Your kitchen may have different installation requirements.
Installation cost and installed cost are two prices
One cost publisher gives installed prices of $100–$400 per linear foot for stock, $150–$700 for semi-custom and $500–$1,200 for custom cabinets.4 Those amounts include the cabinets and installation; the source's visible date is April 2023.4
Use our stock, semi-custom and custom cabinet comparison to distinguish those categories. Before you add a separate labor allowance, ask whether the cabinet total already includes installation.
For cabinet prices and installed-price scope, see kitchen cabinet cost.
Cabinet installation cost per cabinet
One service marketplace estimates $125 to $500 per individual cabinet for installation, separately from buying the cabinets.2
The unit is an individual cabinet. Doors and drawers don't count as separate units. The guide doesn't attach a standard cabinet size to the rate, and it gives no base, wall or tall breakdown for this per-cabinet range.2
Give the installer an itemized count of base cabinets, wall cabinets, tall cabinets and specialty units. Ask which units use the quoted rate and which need separate pricing. If you're supplying flat-packed cabinets, confirm whether assembly is included.
Keep trim and accessory counts separate. A drawer bank, corner cabinet and tall pantry cabinet should each appear on the drawing and quote. Check the installer's definition before you count any visible door as a cabinet.
For a small job, ask whether a minimum visit charge applies. Use the total for your actual cabinet list instead of extending the price of one isolated installation to a whole kitchen.
What the installation price covers
One cabinet provider lists setting, leveling, hanging, fastening and adjusting cabinets among the tasks an installation may include.3
The provider also lists aligning cabinet faces and preparing for countertop templating. Cabinet assembly, trim and hardware still need written confirmation.3 Your quote determines which work you're buying.
Ask the installer to list the finishing work by part: fillers, exposed end panels, toe kicks and crown molding. For each part, confirm whether the price includes cutting, fitting, fastening and finishing.
Set the handoff between the cabinet installer and countertop contractor before work begins. Name who checks the cabinets before the countertop measurement and who handles adjustments requested at that stage.
What an installation quote often leaves out
Removal, wall repairs, delivery, trim, hardware and trade adjustments can add to the installation bill in one provider's guide.3
Costs outside a cabinet installation quote
| Item to confirm | Published amount or question |
|---|---|
| Old-cabinet removal | $300–$800 in one remodeler's guide. Check whether it's already included.1 |
| Disposal and haul-away | Ask who removes the debris and whether a separate charge applies.2 |
| Assembly and finishing details | Ask about assembly, fillers, panels, toe kicks, crown and hardware.3 |
| Plumbing or electrical changes | Ask for the work and price separately from cabinet fitting.3 |
| Countertops | Ask who supplies, measures and installs them. Cabinet preparation isn't a countertop purchase.3 |
| Repairs, delivery and access | Identify these services and their allowances before accepting the total.3 |
Have the contractor label every item as included, excluded or subject to an allowance. For a provisional amount, get the reason it can change and the approval process for additional work.
Cost to remove old kitchen cabinets
Removing old kitchen cabinets costs $300 to $800 in one remodeler's April 2026 guide.1
That estimate doesn't specify a cabinet inventory or promise a particular disposal service.1 Confirm whether removal includes taking the cabinets apart, moving them out of the room and hauling them away. Identify any cabinets that must stay intact for reuse.
List the countertops and appliances that will stay. Name who protects them and arranges any required disconnection. Keep cabinet removal separate from repairs found afterward, and require approval before additional work begins.
What changes the installation price
Assembly, room conditions, cabinet configuration and finishing details can change the installation work required.35
Flat-packed cabinets require assembly before installation. One provider advises checking whether assembly is included in the labor quote.3 If you're supplying the cabinets, have the installer list that work separately.
Uneven walls and floors require fitting work. A cabinet seller also identifies custom trim and nearby plumbing or electrical changes as reasons for additional labor.5 Ask for a site inspection and a written list of known conditions excluded from the price.
Put the cabinet construction and mounting arrangement on the quote request. Read our framed versus frameless cabinet guide for those construction choices. Ask whether either one changes the work included in your price.
Ceiling details, islands and complex cabinet arrangements can require more fitting and coordination.35 Use the cabinets-to-the-ceiling guide to specify the upper finish. Include the kitchen island layout and corner cabinet dimensions in the drawings. Have the installer list any separate charge for those items.
How to check an installation quote
Compare installation quotes only after the unit, cabinet inventory and included work match.
- Confirm the price basis. Record whether the quote is per cabinet, per linear foot, hourly or a fixed total. For hourly work, ask how many workers the rate includes.
- Attach the cabinet list. Include cabinet type, size, quantity and whether it arrives assembled. Mark the layout revision the installer priced.
- Name the finishing work. Specify fillers, panels, toe kicks, crown, handles and adjustment. Ask which materials you must supply.
- Separate other services. Record removal, disposal, delivery, repairs, countertops and trade work as included or excluded.
- Set the change process. Ask how the contractor will document unexpected work and obtain approval before charging for it.
Use our questions to ask a cabinet maker when preparing the request. Keep the accepted quote and drawings together. If a cabinet selection changes, get a revised installation price before ordering.
