Cabinetshop.com publishes plain-English guides to custom cabinets, built-ins, and fine woodwork: what things cost, how they're made, and how to tell good work from bad.
What we publish
We write for homeowners, not contractors. A cost guide gives you real ranges per linear foot and shows you what moves them.
An idea gallery gives you dimensions, not just photographs. A comparison gives you a table and a verdict.
Three rules govern all of it, and they're written down in full on our editorial policy page:
- No invented numbers. Every figure is sourced, and every guide ends with a section naming where its numbers came from.
- No lead-selling. We don't collect your project details and sell them to contractors. That's the business model this site is deliberately not built on.
- Corrections stay visible. When we get something wrong we fix it and say so, rather than quietly editing the page.

About Walt
Walt is the fellow at the bottom of our guides, leaning in to tell you the thing a shop will not volunteer.
Walt is not a real person. He is our brand character, and his pictures are AI-generated illustrations. He does not build cabinets, write our guides, review them, or hold an opinion we did not put in his mouth. No article is bylined to him and none ever will be.
So why have him at all? Because most of what a homeowner needs before signing a cabinet contract is the kind of advice you would get from an old hand leaning on a bench: get three quotes on identical specs, ask what happens when a box shows up wrong.
Walt is a face for that register. He is not evidence, and nothing he says stands in for a source.
We would rather tell you this on our own About page than have you wonder.
What's coming
A directory of real shops: direct contact, no lead-selling. Until it exists, the guides are here to help you plan a project and vet a builder yourself.
We don't have "near me" pages, city pages, or craftsman listings yet, because we've no craftsmen to list yet. Publishing them empty would be a promise with nothing behind it.
